About the Event

Join SPARK on Saturday, January 29th at the Rochester Golf & Country Club for our annual Great Cardboard Sled Race! What can your family construct using cardboard as your main building material? Get creative and have some fun making an award winning cardboard sled!

This year there will be 3 races to choose from: an individual child race, a family race (up to 4 children in one sled) or our adult race!  Light snacks and refreshments will be provided inside the clubhouse while you warm up. Prizes will be awarded for Fastest Sled, Furthest Distance and Best Design in each race and announced at the end of the races.

Entry fee is $25 per sled (each sled can only be entered in one race). Tickets can be purchased through our website following this link: Ticket Link

All tickets are non-refundable. In the event of inclement weather our re-schedule date is Saturday, February 5th.

Registration & Check-In

Register your sled by purchasing a “ticket” for one of the races here before January 28th: LINK

All sleds must be pre-registered!

The Sled Race will be held at The Rochester Golf & Country Club again this year. On Race Day, check-in will begin at 9:30am and all sleds must be entered by 10:00am in order to participate. No late check-ins will be accepted. Upon check-in your sled will be inspected, you will receive a racing number, and sign a liability waiver and photo release form.

Sled Race Rules

Do’s

  • Create your sled at home and bring it with you the day of the race
  • Use only corrugated cardboard as your main construction material
  • Use tape, glue, zip ties, paint and glitter to construct your sled
  • Bring a helmet! All riders must wear a helmet to race!

Don'ts

  • You may NOT use actual sleds, skis, saucers etc to create your sled
  • You may NOT use plastic, metal, or any hard materials other than cardboard in the creation of your sled
  • Do not have any sharp points on your sled that may injure you or other racers

Cardboard Pick Up

Minnesota Corrugated Box provided a limited amount of cardboard for participants to use in the creation of their sleds. Be prepared, these are large pieces and will require cutting down or folding to fit in even a large vehicle. (Full sheets are approx. 6ft x 8ft)

Cardboard can be picked up from SPARK Tuesday - Friday from 12:00-5:00pm now through January 27th or until it’s gone! If you cannot make it during these time frames to pick up your cardboard, please call the front desk to make other arrangements.
